A WORLD LEFT FOR ME

Someday I’ll look back at my childhood days
Remembering the places I played
Climbing tall trees and watching honey bees
And the flowers that bloom in May
And there’s nothing so true as the blue summer sky
As we roll through the grass and watch it fly by
Oh, please let there be a world left for me
When I’m all grown like you.

I love the smell of a warm summer rain
As I wait for the drops to appear
Splashing through puddles and wading through pools
And dangling my toes off the pier.
There’s nothing so dear as the gasps that you hear
When the clouds break apart and a rainbow appears
Oh, please let there be a world left for me
When I’m all grown like you.

Will there be rainbows
And fish in the sea?
Will swimming in lakes be okay?
And when I’m all grown with kids of my own
Will they have a place to play?

I’m taking a picture with my heart today
I’ll memorize how the world makes me feel.
Even though I’m a kid, I have so much to say.
And the questions I have are so real.
Like will polar bears still have a place left to play
Will eagles still fly, or will they all go away?
Oh, lease let there be a world left for me
When I’m all grown like you.
